'Anicca' to Listen to Laurie Anne Creus

Brilliant. Genuine. Wicked-talented. Take your pick; all of these characteristics describe Laurie Anne Creus. She got to know Mozart while still in the womb, but she eventually developed her musical stylings into what can be best described as cinematic soul, taking on ballad-like melodies mixed with the soulful embellishments of R&B.

Laurie Anne uses music as a vehicle to communicate stories that reflect her own life experiences, revelations, and emotions. She sees music as a way to “say what you can’t with words in a conversation. It’s hard to communicate in any other medium…I use the marriage of melody, harmony and lyrics as a cathartic way of letting go, cleansing my soul of a situation, person or feeling. By naming it I can then own it.”

Her new single “Nothing Lasts Forever (Anicca)” focuses on innately human feelings: change and loss. The word ‘Anicca’ derives from the Pali language and functions as the doctrine of impermanence in Buddhism. It represents the belief that all things–including one’s self–are not static, but constantly in flux.

Laurie Anne found herself analyzing every detail when writing Anicca. She uses heavily diverse rhythms to represent the aggression of something that’s pounding away at you, begging to be acknowledged. The orchestral sections contrast that aggression with a sense of serenity, representing the time to release, breathe, and find your light.

With her music as a landscape, Laurie Anne takes us on a Magic Carpet ride that any Disney princess would envy.

Ms. Creus hopes this song helps listeners accept the impermanence and understand that there will be days that utterly kick your ass, but there are also days that make you overflowingly happy. Both of those feelings and moments are ultimately temporary, but she reminds us that “once you find your reason for going forward, you will have the strength to withstand losing your best days and survive your worst days. Only when you realize that, will you be able to experience them fully.”

“Nothing Lasts Forever (Anicca)” is available now on all major streaming platforms and on her website.
