Sweaty palms, shaky hands, and a churning stomach: all telltale symptoms of falling in love. Sometimes it takes a while to realize what’s happening, and sometimes it hits you like a Mack truck.

Mike Nowotarski, who you may know from Coffee Nap, goes into the mind’s inner reflections of falling in love through his first solo release, “New Love”. The song features Anne O’Rourke singing harmonies, Jon Franke playing bass, and Melissa Sgambati reciting poetry, with Mike on all other instruments and vocals.

A feeling of warmth washes over your body as your mind feels freer and lighter with each strum of the guitar. Mike and Anne’s voices blend into a sweet and sultry stream that flows straight from your ears to your soul. As you work your way through “New Love”, you find yourself getting aurally intoxicated off poetry. Lyrically basking in the relief of having someone to depend on and grow with, you’ll get regular shots of oxytocin throughout the song – so drink up!

“New Love” truly captures the essence of starting a new relationship and all the questions and feelings that come in tow. It spotlights the sweet vulnerability that gives every New Love its charm.

One line that nails the sentiment is “the nature of our love and how you must water it to make it grow”. In my interpretation, it means new love is like a new plant: You have to learn what type of environment it needs, water it, fertilize it, and hold yourself accountable in taking care of it. Only when you take the time to nurture it can you let it mature and flourish.
