SECOND NATURE

INTRODUCTIONS:
Second Nature is the definition of good vibes. Bringing a fantastic balance of deep introspection and lighthearted nostalgia to a wobbly space landscape, DJ Kyle Banks is a Bob Ross of his craft. He has been laying down audible happy trees since 2013. Kyle initially began performing under the alias BmO, using DAWs like Garageband and Virtual DJ to produce his sound. He started playing in between acts at local shows after taking on two years of audio engineering school, and by 2016, BmO was performing with a live band. I first heard Kyle’s music around 2017 and was mind-blown; I’d never seen a DJ play with a live set before. The crowd was electrified and everyone on and off stage was having a blast. Kyle rebranded as Second Nature in 2018, in order to streamline and better represent his concepts.
The Second Nature track “Stardust” holds particular meaning for Kyle, as the writing process took place during a tumultuous time for him. He shared that writing the song was a cathartic experience that helped him cope with being in a dark place: “This song is my dedication to anyone experiencing suicidal tendencies to say that there is always hope, even when your drudging thru the darkest of swamps that you can never lose your sense of adventure because just around the corner is a beautiful garden. If you ever experience these thoughts please use the National Suicide Hotline (1-800-273-8255).”
TOURS & SHOWS
Second Nature has been witnessed causing crowds to bop everywhere from Birmingham, Alabama to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Birmingham was actually one of the first out of state experiences Kyle had. On a trip down to a New Year’s Eve gathering with friends, he set up spontaneously in front of the venue and played for about three hours for a crowd of nearly 200 ringing in the new year. Scranton, New Haven, and West Chester have also hosted Second Nature shows, and he’s spent some time in Delaware and Virginia as well. Kyle has a fierce fanbase closer to home. He lists off RumHam at Katie’s of Smithtown in 2016, Fractal Forest with Sounds So Sweet in 2015 and Halloween at Portside in 2016 as some of his all time favorite shows. He is a familiar face behind the turntables at Dubday, a weekly party in Brooklyn at The Gateway. Occasionally you can even catch him on the airwaves as a guest host for Equilibrium Radio on WUSB 90.1!
The rebrand was only done recently, and Kyle has wasted no time expanding his music catalog since. His new EP “Crossroads”, through The Gradient Perspective with additional support from No Hype Music, joins his first release “Hyperion” on a streaming service near you. While “Hyperion” was a tentative dip into his new sound, Crossroads is a full immersion.
Keep your eyes peeled on the social medias for new releases from Second Nature including a much-anticipated mixtape and a few new singles. Some exciting shows are in the works for 2019, the next being February 21st at The Flour City Station in Rochester with DiCE MaN and Krook. Second Nature continues his residency at Sounds So Sweet’s Wired Wednesdays every last Wednesday at Velvet Lounge in Setauket.

INSPIRATION & INFLUENCES
Second Nature’s sound has been shaped by combining influences from early dubstep acts like Skream, Rusko, Doctor P, & Bassnectar and melding it with modern styles similar to Space Jesus, Eprom, um.., and Psymbionic. “I strive to create Heavy Bass Music you can head-bang & hum to while also creating a cross section of dance floor smashing rhythms for any fan of the weird!” Kyle shares.
“Lesson #1 Whenever you have the opportunity to do something, do it!
Lesson # 2 Always tip your bartender or server
Lesson # 3 Be there for the person next to you
Shout outs to all of the amazing people who take time to listen to new underground music!”
